This sector combines the Electrical Engineering and Electronics sector with the Engineering Servicing, General Engineering and Manufacturing sector. It covers members working in the design, production, manufacturing and maintenance of electrical and associated products, electrical components, semi-conductors, turbines, electronic goods and domestic appliances.
Through UKAPE Unite represents professional engineers across the UK who are either chartered or working towards chartership, and other professionals providing a service to the public.
The sector includes members in engineering servicing (engineers, escalators and lifts, white goods, home entertainment and materials handling), general industries (general engineering & manufacturing, and professional sales staff in the Professional Sales Association (PSA).
Unite actively promotes the proper training of members through apprenticeships, up to and including postgraduate level, with a keen eye kept on future needs, so the UK can maintain the skills necessary to continue and grow this area of manufacturing. Unite members within the sector receive representation on issues that affect them at work, which is designed to ensure that their pay, terms and conditions of employment are kept at the best levels possible, even against competition from low cost countries.
