Mass demo called to support BiFab workers Thursday 16th

STUC calls on Scottish Trade Unionists to Support the BiFab Workers.

GMB Scotland and Unite the Union have called a march and demonstration in Edinburgh on Thursday 16 November.

•BiFab workers will assemble at 10am at Johnston Terrace, leaving at 10.30 to march down the Royal Mile to the Parliament.

•At 11am a rally in support of the workers will be held outside the Scottish Parliament urging the Scottish Government and MSPs, of all parties, to work together to fight for the future of fabrication firm BiFab.

A total of 1,400 jobs, between direct employment and the supply chain, are under threat after management informed trade unions on Monday morning that the company has no money left to pay the wages of their staff.

The BiFab workers have courageously decided to continue to work to complete their current contract, despite having no guarantee that they will be paid. Trade unionists are staffing the gates so that equipment and materials cannot be removed from the Methil yard.

This is a viable workforce and these are viable yards - important strategic assets - ready and able to help deliver the future of Scottish manufacturing.

Letting these workers and their communities go under is not an option. We must stand shoulder to shoulder with the BiFab workers.

The STUC are supporting GMB Scotland and Unite the Union Scotland at their rally outside the Scottish Parliament this Thursday (16) at 11am.

We urge all trade unionists to join the BiFab workers at the rally.
