‘Felixstowe 4’ protest demands justice at CK Hutchison AGM
Unite delegation engages key investors at CK Hutchison AGM in Hong Kong
Banner drop at AGM demands reinstatement of four unfairly sacked dockers from Felixstowe
A campaign delegation has delivered Unite the Union’s demand for justice for four unfairly sacked Felixstowe dockers at the AGM of CK Hutchison in Hong Kong (18 May).
Facing heavy security, Unite’s delegation engaged with CK shareholders and displayed a large banner within the building demanding: CK Hutchison: Reinstate the Felixstowe Four. (Photos available.)
Unite’s has compiled forensic analysis of the conglomerate, which owns the Port of Felixstowe and assets including energy and water utilities across the UK.
Prior to the AGM the delegation engaged key investors of the group based in Hong Kong, including Goldman Sachs, First Sentier, Invesco and HSBC.
The campaign to reinstate the four workers follows strike action at the Port of Felixstowe in 2022, which is owned by CK Hutchison. Unite believes the four workers were unfairly targeted for dismissal because of their trade union activities despite their long service and exemplary records. Legal action is ongoing.
Gail Cartmail, Head of Executive Operations for Unite said: “Unite’s delegation has delivered a message to CK Hutchison and their most important shareholders: no matter how powerful you are or how far away you may be, you cannot escape our demand for justice for the Felixstowe Four.
“We have made it very clear to CK Hutchison and investors that this campaign will only escalate and they must do the right thing by reinstating the Felixstowe Four today.”
