Unite, the UK’s leading, has welcomed the announcement today (Tuesday) that Derby has been selected as the headquarters of the newly created Great British Railways.

Unite East Midlands regional secretary Paresh Patel said: “This is excellent news for Derby, which has trains and railways in its DNA.  Now we need to ensure that the workers of this region benefit with jobs and investment flowing to the city.

“Unite’s vision is that Derby becomes the UK’s hub for railways and train manufacturing. Today’s decision must create good, quality jobs for Derby and the wider region and pave the way for the future of rail for the country.”

Unite represents thousands of members within the rail network and in train manufacturing, including at the Alstom factory in Derby.
