Unfettered profiteering sparks Scottish Power protest
Trade unionists and activists from across Scotland are preparing to stage a major protest outside Scottish Power against unfettered profiteering and a broken economy.
- In the first six months of 2022, Scottish Power and its owner Iberdrola made £924.6 million, mostly thanks to a jump in profits generated by selling electricity.
- The “Big 4” energy providers (Centrica, E.ON, EDF and Scottish Power) made combined £9.5 billion profit in 2021, up 84% on 2019.
Meanwhile research by Survation for Unite has revealed, 82,633 (13%) of Glaswegians across 7 battleground Westminster constituencies can’t pay their household bills this year.
