£74 million parent company offering `poverty pay' while profits rocket.

Picket lines will form across London this weekend.

Customers at London’s Grosvenor Casinos’ seven venues will face picket lines and protests as workers walkout out tomorrow (Friday 9 September) over an insulting offer on pay.

Around 150 gaming and hospitality staff, members of Unite the union, will down chips in protest at the `poverty pay’  deal they have been offered in the midst of the worst cost of living crisis in generations. This by a company that has raked in £74 million in profits so far this year.

The workers have voted by 91 per cent to reject Grosvenor Casino’s offers of two one off-payments of £600 and £800, both subject to tax and National Insurance.  Instead, the workers are demanding a pay rise in line with spiralling prices.

Backing the workers, Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “In the midst of a living costs crisis, while their profits rocket Grosvenor Casinos is offering workers more years on poverty pay.

“Workers are sick to death of being treated abysmally by businesses that are sitting on huge piles of cash. Our members deserve much better and will have the full support of Unite in their fight for a fair wage.”

Unite national officer for hospitality Dave Turnbull added: “It is very simple: our members cannot afford to accept what Grosvenor Casinos is offering.  They’re struggling to keep their heads above water as it is on the wages they’re paid.  With the hours they work, they need a car but they cannot afford to fill their cars to get to work.  Grosvenor Casinos has to get back around the table with a better deal or this disruption will continue.”

Unite picket lines at Grosvenor Casinos in London are as follows:

Friday 9th September: The Grosvenor Victoria 150-162 Edgware Rd, London W2 2DT from 18:00 hours until 22:00 hours.  Main picket, 18:00 hours until 20:00 hours.

Saturday 10th September: The Grosvenor Rialto, 3-4 Coventry St, London W1D 6BL from 18:00 hours until 22:00 hours.  Main picket, 18:00 hours until 20:00 hours.

Sunday 11th September: Rolling protest actions at The Grosvenor Russell Square,  61-66 Russell Sq, London WC1B 5JS and culminating at The Grosvenor, 4-18 Harrington Gardens, South Kensington, London SW7 4LJ.
