Strikes at the Wabtec rail maintenance site in Doncaster have been suspended to allow workers to vote on a new offer put forward by the company.

Unite, the UK’s leading union, said strikes scheduled to begin on 19 July over the company’s ‘fire and rehire’ plans will now be postponed.

The union said that if its members vote down the deal then new strike action will be scheduled.

Unite regional officer Harriet Eisner said: “Strike action at Wabtec in Doncaster has been suspended to allow our members to vote on a new offer from the company.”

Wabtec is an international manufacturer and supplier of equipment for the railway industry. The workers at its Doncaster site maintain and repair rail stock, including carriages, wheels and bogies.
