Unite calls for urgent talks on job security with new owners of SSE Contracting

Unite the union has called for urgent talks with the new owners of SSE Contracting Ltd in relation to future job security and employment conditions.
Unite has about 350 members, mainly electricians working on building and maintenance projects; and street lighting operatives, working for local councils and on Private Finance Initiative (PFI) projects.
The new owner of SSE Contracting, which is a long-established division of SSE PLC (Scottish and Southern Energy), will be investment company Aurelius UK.
Unite regional officer Michelle King said: “This is a time of great uncertainty for our members and we are keen to hold urgent and constructive talks with the new management as to their future business strategy.
“Our top priority is to secure the future employment of our members and also to protect their employment terms and conditions.
“We look forward to working with the new owners as we move forward into the post-pandemic business world.”
