Unite has hailed the signing of a new recognition agreement with the Peabody Group housing association today (Friday 27 November) as an ‘excellent result’ for the nearly 3,000 staff it covers.

The agreement covers nearly all of Peabody’s staff, who are located across London and the South East.

Unite and Peabody also reached an agreement over the legal technicalities involved in the amalgamation of Peabody, Family Mosaic and Gallions in March 2018.

This includes a settlement on behalf of Unite’s members at Peabody who were employees at the time of the amalgamation.

Unite regional officer Matt Freeman said: “Thanks to the longstanding efforts of our reps and members, Unite are pleased to have now formalised union recognition covering nearly 3,000 workers at Peabody.

“This an excellent result for Peabody’s workers across London and the South East and Unite looks forward to building on this success and working productively with Peabody to ensure the best interests of our members.

“At a crucial and worrying time for many workers up and down the country, this agreement is another example of the benefits standing together in a union brings.”

Unite legal officer Adam Lambert said: “We are delighted to have secured this excellent outcome two years on from amalgamation.

“Settling the issue in the run up to Christmas will be great news for our members at Peabody and their families. The case is a further reminder of why workers should join Unite.”

A statement from Peabody said: "We’re pleased to have signed a recognition agreement with Unite.

“We look forward to a constructive partnership moving forwards, as we tackle the significant challenges facing our residents and communities, and to working together so that Peabody continues to be a great place to work.”
