2021 save debt advice

Act now to save debt advice

Time is running out to stop debt advice deserts springing up across England. Will you help us?

In just a matter of weeks, new contracts from the Money and Pensions Service (MaPs) - which funds most free debt advice in England – will see funding for face-to-face services cut in half. Our members, who help hundreds of thousands of people out of debt a year, are really worried about the impact this will have on their most vulnerable clients.

Email your MPHelp us save face-to-face debt advice and protect jobs. Please urgently email your MP. Our MPs must use their power to pressure the Treasury and MaPs to pause the tendering process and stop the cuts to face-to-face debt advice. There isn’t much time. The new MaPs contracts are due to be announced on 14 January 2022.

We make a difference

Debt advice clients have told Unite’s experts that face-to-face provision made a real difference to them. At a time when personal debt is soaring because of the cost of living crisis, the end of furlough and cuts to Universal Credit, the shift away from face-to-face towards call centres will hit the most vulnerable people and those with the most complex cases hardest of all.

MaPs – needs to think again.
