Unite – leading the campaign to save Bridlington hospital
Unite the union
is at the forefront in the fight to save vital services at
Bridlington Hospital.
Problems have been ongoing at Scarborough and North East
Yorkshire Trust due to an historic debt.
However, even after Unite lobbied the government to park the
debt the Trust announced plans to close the Cardiac Monitoring Unit
and two acute medical wards at Bridlington Hospital.
Unite has
consistently said that these plans will put patient's lives at
risk, as they will have to travel further, 18 miles to Scarborough
hospital, for emergency treatment.
Unite Regional Officer, Terry Cunliffe, said: "Staff at
Bridlington are distraught. We believe that the closure of these
wards and the Cardiac Monitoring Unit will put patient's lives at
risk.
“Unite is outraged and will continue to campaign vigorously to
keep these services at Bridlington and to prevent Bridlington from
being downgraded."
