David Martin

Scotland: David Martin
In launching the booklet ‘A New Social Europe’ David Martin MEP, Unite member and number one on labour’s list for Scotland said: "Labour’s policy on ‘A New Social Europe’ shows clear red water between us and the Tories. Whereas the Conservative Party would pull us out of the European Social Chapter, Labour wants to see more progress towards a fairer society. Scottish citizens want to see more progress towards a fairer society. A New Social Europe would achieve improved employment and better social protection for all. Only Labour, working with the trades unions and our fellow parties in every member state, can achieve this."

Richard Corbett

The European parliamentary elections in June will be vital on at least three scores: starting Labour's comeback in national terms as we approach the next general election; avoiding the horrendous prospect of the BNP gaining its first ever parliamentarians under the proportional electoral system; and, last but not least, ensuring a large contingent of socialist and social democrat MEPs in the European Parliament which now has a decisive say on all European legislation More >

Eluned Morgan   Wales: Eluned Morgan
"I have been delighted to serve as a Unite MEP over the past 15 years; I am confident now however on stepping down from the European Parliament that Derek Vaughan who is top of the Labour list in Wales will be an excellent representative for the people of Wales. His vast experience in the field of local government as the leader of Neath Port Talbot Council one of Wales most successful local authorities and also as head of the Welsh Local Government Association will serve him well in this complex institution."

As we gear up for the European Elections on June 4, when people talk about the agricultural sector and Europe, what comes to most peoples' minds is farm subsidies. As a Labour MEP for the South West, I appreciate how important the farming sector is, especially in relation to the number of people employed. In the South West over 76,000 people work in the agricultural sector ranging from full time, part time and seasonal workers. More >
