Unite the Union has a proud record of
supporting our members to improve their quality of life; working
conditions, and promotion & employment prospects through
learning.
The Lifelong Learning (LLL) department is overseen by
Jennie Bremner, Assistant General Secretary of our union, and
managed by Tom Beattie - Head of Lifelong Learning and Officer
Development.
Thanks to bids submitted by the union to the Labour Government
via the Union Learning Fund, we have the largest and, arguably,
most effective LLL project within the British Trades Union
movement.
Jim Telford manages the project within England. It consists of a
network of Regional Learning Organisers (RLO) and Learning Centres
with Support Workers, up and down the country. In this way we
support and train Union Learning Representatives (ULRs) to
facilitate and guide members in the workplace, to make the most of
the opportunities available. ULRs as part of the LLL team can help
companies draw down funding and support, to increase the
skills within the workplace, to the benefit of all. With LLL
team support, ULRs also aim to ensure that access to training and
learning is fair and equitable.
Similar systems are in place in other parts of the UK.
To get more information please contact your Regional Office and
ask to speak to either your Regional Industrial Organiser or a
Learning Organiser.
We intend to keep updating this section of the website, so
if you are interested in Education; Learning or Training for
the benefit of you and your colleagues and/or your community
keep checking this site out.
If you think that you might like to support your
colleagues at work and in the community with continuing LLL,
contact your Regional Learning Organiser about opportunities to
become a ULR in your workplace.
