Welcome to Unite
Welcome to Unite in the North West - a region with an
unrivalled history of trade union organisation and activity. This
tradition is harnessed in Unite and combined with new and
innovative organisation reflecting the contemporary nature of
modern day membership.
As a result, Unite is active in every
sector of the north west economy and is seeking to build a dynamic
member led force for change. Spanning workplaces from the private
to "public" service through finance to the not for profit sectors,
we pride ourselves on our ability to achieve results for all our
members in every trade and profession.
Our membership, like that of the North West,
as a whole, is culturally and ethnically diverse. It encompasses a
large proportion of women members and those with disabilities. The
region is making a determined effort to be inclusive and many of
the features on this website indicate and identify measures that we
are taking to reflect our membership base through our
organisation.
The region is also passionate about achieving
change in society for its members. That is why we campaign actively
with our colleagues from other regions on the Unite agenda –
from manufacturing investment through to pension protection. But we
also participate in many government and non government agencies in
the north west pressing the case for our members and ensuring that
Unite is regarded as an important "social partner."
We are convinced that the information
contained on our web site will be valuable to existing members and
inform those who wish to join the union. It will provide a snapshot
at any one time of Unite activity in the north west.
Ultimately we hope it will inspire many to become more active
in the union and ensure that Unite continues to deliver on a
progressive agenda for working people.
