CFS The Co-operative Financial Services (CFS) and
joint trade unions (Unite, NACO and Usdaw) sign three new core
agreements to further support their ongoing relationship.

December 2007 - Rolls-Royce workers across the UK rally
to save Merseyside plant
Rolls-Royce workers across the UK joined a national protest on 10th
December in support of fellow workers fighting to save their jobs
at the plant in Bootle.

December 2007 - Unite builds up campaign to fight the
closure of Rolls-Royce on Merseyside Unite unveils
their campaign message 'Keep Rolls-Royce Pride on Merseyside’ on a
giant poster site in Liverpool to mark the first month since the
company announced it's plans to close its' Bootle site.The new
poster is part of their ongoing fight to save the Bootle site and
the jobs of its 212 employees.

November 2007 - Unite steps up campaign to 'Keep
Rolls-Royce Pride on Merseyside'
Jack Straw speaks to Rolls-Royce workers in Southport about the
threatened plant in Bootle. Rolls-Royce workers were outside the
North West Labour Party Conference in Southport on Saturday 3rd
November to ask delegates and members of the public to sign their
petition to stop the closure

September 2007 - March with a
message Hundreds of Unite members from the North West
joined the national demonstration at the Labour Party Conference in
Bournemouth to send a powerful message to the Government that our
members want a well resourced and managed NHS, affordable housing
and secure jobs and pensions

Crusade The Remploy Crusade to stop the
dreadful closures of 83 Remploy factories reaches the Remploy
factory in Aintree which is earmarked for closure.

July 2007 - Unite members at Betafence take strike
action
Unite Regional Secretary, Laurence Faircloth joined members working
at Betafence Ltd at a successful day of industrial action on Friday
20th July following a dispute over shift changes.

July 2007 - Drive to save manufacturing
A delegation from the North West joined the demonstration at
Westminster on Thursday 12th July to mark the delivery of a
petition with 40,000 signatures to the new Prime Minister, Gordon
Brown in defence of manufacturing jobs in the UK.

June 2007 - Learning to Work Together in
Partnership
The signing of the Learning Agreement with Unite, Unionlearn and
the Fujitsu Services Management team was held on 28th June 2007.
Terry Thompson, Regional Officer and Tony Saunders, Union
Development Co-ordinator for Unionlearn, Larry Upton, Employee
Relations Manager, Fujitsu Services and Victoria Ward, Head
of Learning and Development in Core Services were principal
signatories to the agreement.

Parliament
Over 100 members travelled from the North West to join their
colleagues at the Construction Rally and Lobby of Parliament about
the exploitation of agency and migrant workers and the erosion of
National Agreements. |

March 2007 - Prime Minster visits financial services
company CFS Prime Minister, Tony Blair, meets CFS
Chief Executive, David Anderson, and Amicus Regional Officer, Hugh
Jones-Glass on a recent visit to the Co-operative Financial
Services (CFS) Head Office, Manchester to see how CFS has
implemented their work-life balance policy and their recent
'Outsourcing Principles Agreement.'

February 2007 - Amicus members pay tribute to those
affected by asbestos Amicus Crewe No 2 Branch funded
a bench to mark Mesothelioma Awareness Day on 27th February, which
highlighted the suffering of victims of asbestos related
diseases.

5 January 2007 - Construction workers
demonstration More than 100 members took to the streets of
Liverpool City centre on Friday 5th January to take part in a
demonstration demanding agreed standards of employment and health
and safety are guaranteed by all employers on constructions
projects. Amicus is to hold a national demonstration and lobby of
Parliament on the 27 March 2007 in London - further details to

November 2006 - South of the Border - the
movie
Members' of the Wirral Hospital NHS Trust’s Works and
Maintenance Division, including Amicus member Jimmy McGannon,
established the Trust's prostate cancer awareness campaign 'South
of the Border' last year. They then went on to be named Wirral
Hospital's Team of the Year 2005 and pledged £5,000 prize money
towards the making of a DVD which will help promote awareness of
prostate cancer. The three-minute film, to be produced by
Liverpool-based company Naked Poet Productions, will be screened
across Merseyside next year.

20 November 2006 - Fujitsu workers strike
Amicus officer, Jimmy Carter, joins Amicus members at Fujitsu
on strike action which included a rally of members to defend their
redundancy rights, union recognition and fight for better
pay.

1 November 2006 - North West supports NHS
Lobby
North West activists travel to London as part of the "NHS
Together" lobby of Parliament.
Sam McInnes (son of senior rep Liz McInnes, North Manchester
General Hospital) handed in a petition at Number 10 Downing Street
regarding the financial deficit issues surrounding Pennine Acute
Hospital NHS Trust.

23 October 2006 - Amicus Charitable
Presentation
A contingency fund set up prior to the formation of Amicus was
no longer required by its members, due mainly to the excellent
"partnership culture" which is fostered between the Unions and
Management at the Urenco Capenhurst site, near Chester. John Evans
(Amicus Convenor) was pleased to report Paul Harding, Urenco
Capenhurst Managing Director was willing to "top up" the donation
to £5,000 as a reward for the excellent safety culture which exists
on site and specifically for the continued +2 years the Company has
enjoyed without a lost time accident - the cheque was handed over
to Claire House, a children's hospice at Bebbington, Wirral,
representative John Maddock on Monday 23 October.

Wigan

October 2006 - Amicus welcomes TUC Organisers
Amicus welcomes three new union organisers from the TUC
Organising Academy who will be organising new members, identifying
reps and establishing Amicus in many new workplaces. From left to
right, Ben Alderson was an Amicus rep at HSBC Call Centre in
Edinburgh, David Braniff-Herbert was an Amicus Rep at Barclays Call
Centre in Manchester and Helen Camp was a PCS Rep at the Office for
National Statistics in Southport. Helen and Ben will be
concentrating their efforts on building our membership within the
Finance Sector and David will focus on the need to increase our
youth and student membership and participation.

26 September 2006 - Activists demonstrate at Labour
Party Conference for pension justice
Amicus Deputy General Secretary and North West Regional
Secretary, Graham Goddard, leads hundreds of activists through
Manchester to a rally outside the GMEX, to demand justice for those
who lost have lost their pensions when companies went bust.

September 2006 - Amicus kick starts a recruitment drive
at Lex
Amicus kick started a recruitment drive this month at Lex, a
vehicle leasing company owned by HBOS, by recruiting 48 new members
including the potential of three new Amicus reps.
Amicus officials and representatives had the opportunity to
walk around the site in Cheadle and speak to its 700 employees
about the benefits of joining Amicus. Existing and new members who
signed up throughout the week were entered into a free trade draw
and Kathryn Wood (centre), a newly recruited member, was the lucky
winner of two tickets to see Kylie in concert at Manchester
presented by Amicus officials Dave Kennedy and Fazia Hussain.

2 September 2006 - Amicus members protest over Remploy
factory closure
Amicus members employed at Remploy factories across the country
join forces with other unions at a rally in Liverpool to try and
save their jobs following a government sponsored review to look at
ways to cuts costs.
Remploy is the UK’s biggest employer of disabled people and
employs over 5,000 disabled workers in 82 factories nationally
including Aintree, Birkenhead and St. Helens. Speakers included
Amicus Deputy General Secretary and North West Regional Secretary,
Graham Goddard, and Amicus National Officer - GPM Sector, Ann
Field.

5 August 2006 - Amicus supports Princes Park
Festival
Amicus sponsored this year's Princes Park Event in Liverpool.
This year marked the second stage of the journey during the
Transatlantic Slave Trade, focusing on Maafa - a Kiswahili
(Swahili) term for "Disaster" or "Terrible Occurrence".
An Amicus sponsored stall offered us the opportunity to engage
with local people in the community and with a carnival parade
proceeding through local streets, in the Granby Toxteth area
Liverpool 8 leading into Princes Park, the event attracted
thousands of people and was a brilliant place to get valuable
feedback.

15 July 2006 - Amicus £1
million campaign to boycott Peugeot
Amicus Official, Jimmy Carter with NW activists and members
targeting the Peugeot dealership in Preston on Amicus' national day
of protest which involved demonstrations outside every major
Peugeot dealership across the country.

June 2006 - Amicus Band of Britain Award 2006,
Manchester
Lancashire band The Idanos
winning the semi-final of the Amicus Bands of Britain Award held at
Manchester’s Life Café. They will be battling it out in the final
at London's Scoop festival on 5 July with other regional winners,
The Jan Watkins Band, Easy Sister, Bang She’s Dead, If I Were King
and Undefined.

June 2006 - Amicus extends union
recognition
NW Regional Officer, Lawrence Chapple-Gill signs union
recognition agreement with Carl Lee, Finance Director at NALCO in
Northwich. Amicus already has recognition on the shop floor with
T&G but this marks the extension of recognition to the clerical
and administrative areas.

May 2006 - Terry has a royal date with the
Queen
North West Regional Officer, Terry Burns has a royal date with
the Queen on her visit to Lancashire County Council.
County Councillor Terry Burns met Her Majesty the Queen and
the famous corgis just a week into his new role as Chairman of
Lancashire County Council, County Council. Terry and his wife,
Wendy, who live in Burnley, were asked to be part of the welcoming
committee outside Dunsop Bridge Post Office.

May 2006 - Lawrence Chapple-Gill and
Dominique Walker, the sister of murdered black teenager Anthony
Walker, at the Love Music Hate Racism event in Manchester. In
all, there were around 700 people attending and Amicus was able to
gets its message across that the union is at the forefront of
opposing racism and the BNP.
Lawerence urged all those present to join a union if they were
not yet members, which was an effective way to tackle racism both
at work and in the community.

Remember 28 April 2006 is Workers' Memorial
Day
Amicus joins other trade unions, campaigners and bereaved
families at the event in Manchester to remember those killed by
work and fight for changes in law and enforcement to prevent
workers being killed because their employer did not comply with the
legislation or failed to manage health and safety responsibilities
adequately.
Workers Memorial Day is one day when we can act locally and
nationally to publicise these key workplace Health and Safety
issues and ensure that such incidents and tragedies do not happen
again.

November 2005 - Amicus reaching out to black and
ethnic minority communities - Delegates from black and
ethnic communities attending a conference "Setting the Equalities
Agenda" in Blackpool hosted by Amicus in the North West in
November. The conference encouraged more members from the black and
ethnic minority communities, who are currently underrepresented in
trade union, to join and fully participated in trade union
activities.
