Unite welcomes government's announcement to introduce new rules to ban blacklisting

2 December 2009

Unite, the biggest union in the construction industry has today (2nd December) welcomed the government's announcement to introduce new rules to ban the practice of blacklisting workers for their trade union activities or membership.

Unite assistant general secretary, Les Bayliss said: “We welcome the government's decision to introduce regulations to end the unjust practice of blacklisting. The government must now make it a priority to bring  robust regulations into effect. Too many construction workers have suffered victimisation at the hands of unscrupulous employers and it is right to stamp out this practice for good. "

Unite has issued claims under the Trade Union & Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 S137.
