Unite condemns prime minister for his comments on health and safety
5 January 2011
Unite, Britain's biggest union, has condemned prime minister
David Cameron for his out-of-touch and insensitive comments about
health and safety. The prime minister said his new year's
resolution was to "kill-off the health and safety culture."
Unite general secretary, Len McCluskey said: "171 people were
killed at work last year. For the prime minister to choose such
insensitive words shows just how callous and out-touch the leader
of the coalition government is.
"Strong health and safety regulations to protect workers, and
the right to hold employers to account should be central to a
modern and civilised society.
"David Cameron and his coalition government are dragging this
country backwards. The government should be doing everything
possible to protect the health and safety of workers in this
country, not undermining it."
