Unite's response to the government's renationalisation of the
National Express London to Scotland East Coast rail line
1st July 2009
Responding to the news that the government is to temporarily
renationalise the London to Scotland East Coast Main Line rail
route, Bob Rixham, Unite's national officer, said: "Whilst
welcoming the decisive action by Lord Adonis in effectively
announcing the renationalisation of NXEC, the Department for
Transport should now put in place a review of this failed franchise
system which was introduced by the last Conservative
administration.
"Though the Department for Transport has given assurances that
passenger services will not be affected and that employees will
transfer to the new publicly owned company, Unite members are
demanding long term stability which the current system has failed
to deliver."
