Strike action suspended at Bord na Mona
22 June 2009
Strike action which was due to halt peat
production at Bord na Mona today has been suspended.
Officials from the group of unions representing over 300 workers
will now study revised proposals from management aimed at resolving
the dispute ahead of a general meeting of workers on Thursday
evening, June 25th.
“Talks have been taking place throughout the
weekend and this morning,” said UNITE Regional Officer and Chairman
of the Group of Unions, Frank Maunsell. “These have produced
a revision of the proposals originally put forward by management
which led to our members voting 94 per cent in favour of industrial
action at the end of last month. A general meeting of staff
this morning decided to suspend industrial action until we have
studied these revised proposals. A decision will be taken by
the members next Thursday evening as to whether we proceed with the
strike action.”
Strike action was originally called over the
decision of company management to impose changes in the agreed
procedure for the production of peat for power station
supply.
