NAG to outsource ATM Channel and debit cards
5th November 2009
Unite, the UK’s largest union, is dismayed by the National
Australia Group’s (NAG) announcement today (Thursday) that it plans
to outsource its ATM Channel and debit card business to First Data
impacting 30 jobs in NAG offices in Glasgow, Leeds and
Clydebank.
Whilst 19 NAG staff will be TUPE transferred to a new First Data
office in Leeds and an existing office in Glasgow, the remaining 11
staff will be redeployed to suitable alternative roles in their
current locations. NAG also owns Clydesdale and Yorkshire
Banks.
A knock-on effect of this outsourcing will be the potential loss
of 31 jobs for ex-NAG staff in Belfast. These technology staff were
outsourced to Accenture just over two years ago on an initial five
year contract to look after NAG's ATM and debit card infrastructure
as well as non ATM and Point of Sale (POS) activities. 11 staff in
Belfast will lose their jobs as a direct impact of the NAG change
of contract to First Data.
Accenture has indicated that the viability of retaining any
presence in Northern Ireland is in serious doubt creating real
uncertainty for the remaining 18 staff, with the likelihood of
these roles being offshored to Bangalore by mid 2010, with the
possibility of some redeployment opportunities in Glasgow.
Unite national officer, Rob McGregor, said: "Ex NAG staff
outsourced to Accenture will feel let down and bitterly
disappointed at today's news given the commitment and hard work
they have put in over the last two years. Outsourcing is never easy
for our members but the NAG transfer to Accenture had at least been
tempered with the promise of job security for the five year term of
the contract."
Unite will be pushing Accenture and NAG to do the right thing
and keep the Belfast office open, both for the 18 unaffected staff,
and those whose roles will be lost and wish to remain within the
business.
