Finance staff strike at Capita over 'derisory' pay
10th July 2009
Unite the union members at Capita will strike today (Friday
10th) in a dispute over the 'derisory' pay offer made to
staff.
Staff from Capita, Glasgow will take industrial action today over
what has been branded a pay 'insult'. Despite continued profit
increases, the contribution of staff to this success is being
ignored.
Rob MacGregor, Unite national officer said: “Capita only has itself
to blame for this strike action. Staff did not want to take this
step, but their employer has repeatedly ignored their legitimate
concerns over pay.
“How can a company, which increased operating profit by 18
per cent to £320 million last year and raised the dividend payment
to shareholders by 20 per cent, not be able to give its staff a
cost of living pay rise?
“Unite members believe that Capita is simply using the economic
downturn as an excuse to deny their staff the reward they have
earned. The pay offer of 1.5 per cent, when contrasted with the
huge bonuses being paid out in the Capita boardroom, is nothing
short of insulting. Staff will not accept this derisory
offer.
“The union is furious that despite the hard work and commitment
from Capita workers over many years, their employer is treating
them in this manner.”
Staff will strike on Friday 10th July 2000 at Bothell Street,
Glasgow, G2 6UR
A picket line will be outside the Capita office from: 8am –
5pm
