4,000 craft workers in local authorities and HSE to ballot for
strike action
2nd March 2009
The local authority and health service craft group of unions has
endorsed the ICTU call for industrial action and will ballot its
4,000 council and hospital skilled workers for industrial action to
achieve compliance with the T2016 transitional agreement or a
suitable alternative.
Craft group members will be balloted immediately with the result
expected on Friday 20th March 2009.
“Delegates expressed their anger and frustration at the
government's decision to drastically reduce their pay through the
imposition of a pension levy while the same politicians continue to
protect the interests and identities of those whose greed and
corrupt practices has brought Ireland's financial institutions to
the brink of bankruptcy.” said Brian Gormley of Unite, acting
chairman of the group.
