Unite welcomes new ownership at Iralco
31 July 2008
Unite, the trade union representing 420
workers at the Iralco plant in Collinstown County Westmeath has
welcomed today’s announcement that liquidators have found a buyer
for the business as a going concern.
“This is great news for the workers, for their
families and for the people of Collinstown,” said Unite National
Officer John Bolger. “We will work closely with the new
owners to build a long term sustainable future for Iralco and its
employees.”
Iralco employs 420 people and is worth an
estimated €8 million per annum to the local economy.
Liquidators were appointed in April when the plant closed its doors
for one week prior to reopening after discussions with workers to
give it the best possible chance of finding a buyer. Iralco
have manufactured automotive parts in Ireland since 1964.
