Unite reaction to Scottish ambulance service inquiry
29 May 2008
Unite, Scotland's largest trade union, has welcomed this
afternoon's announcement that an inquiry will take place into the
management of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
Over the last few weeks, Unite has expressed its concerns about
the deterioration of its relations with Scottish Ambulance Service
management. The Union believe that management practices have
resulted in a culture of bullying and harassment that is to the
detriment of staff morale and patient care.
Unite Senior Industrial Officer, Jimmy Farrelly said, "We
welcome the moves taken today by the board of the Scottish
Ambulance Service which we believe are a direct response to the
concerns we have raised.
Unite will fully co-operate with the inquiry over the coming
weeks to ensure the concerns of the staff are addressed and
crucially that patient care remains the priority throughout." Unite
has over 1,400 members in the Scottish Ambulance Service ranging
from paramedics to control staff, technicians to ancillary
staff.
