Jaguar Land Rover has announced the creation of 800 production jobs at its plant in Solihull. Initially the new jobs will be one-year contracts, but will be converted to full-time jobs if market conditions remain strong.
Unite assistant general secretary Tony Burke said: "Following the bad news from Honda last week, these new jobs are to be welcomed. They are part of JLR's ongoing expansion. Although the contracts are for one year, we hope that we can convert them into well paid, permanent jobs in the future.
"The workforce at Solihull is highly skilled and has made a massive contribution to the success of the company here in the UK."
