Responding to this afternoon’s announcement that Neil Findlay MSP has been appointed to the shadow cabinet post of Fair Work, Skills and Training, Unite Scottish secretary Pat Rafferty said: “Neil’s track-record as a fighter for working people and workers’ rights is without question, so this is a welcome appointment.
“The problems across the Scottish economy and labour market are deep and plenty: 400,000 people earn less than the living wage; 120,000 people are employed on zero hour contracts; and 72,000 young people are unemployed.
“We need to end the scandal of in-work poverty and the scourge of precarious contracts of employment, while creating more learning and job opportunities for young Scots.
“With working class representatives like Neil fighting for the interests of the many and not the few in the Scottish parliament on this brief, Scotland stands a better chance of achieving these objectives.”
