The spirit of Mary Turner will shine on through the many men and women she inspired to join the trade union movement, said Len McCluskey, the leader of Britain’s largest union, Unite.
Speaking on the passing of Mary Turner, long-standing president of the GMB and member of the Labour party’s executive, the Unite general secretary sent condolences to GMB and Mary’s family on behalf of Unite.
Commenting on Mary Turner’s death after a short illness, Len McCluskey said: “The thoughts of Unite are with our comrades at the GMB as they mourn the loss of one of our movement’s finest champions for working people, Mary Turner.
“A fearsome campaigner and fighter, Mary dedicated her life to winning justice and making a better world for working people. Her big heart, care and passion will be long remembered, but it will be through the many men and women she inspired to join our movement and who hope to follow in her footsteps that Mary’s spirit will shine on.
“We send our condolences to her family, and her union brothers and sisters at this sad time.”
