Unite Scottish xecretary Pat Rafferty said: “Tony Benn was, is and always will be a giant of our movement and our class; a genuine hero to ordinary people in a time when heroes are so hard to find.
“In recent years we had the great pleasure and privilege of welcoming Tony back to Scotland in celebration of the Upper Clyde Shipbuilder work-in 40th anniversary, the legendary work-in occupation of which he was such a prominent supporter.
“As the guest of honour that evening, you could see the genuine love and respect which people of all ages had for Tony and the inspiration that they drew from his words and deeds; from the UCS veterans with whom he marched in solidarity through the streets of Glasgow to the young activists at the beginning of their own journey.
“Our thoughts are with his family and he will be sorely missed, but his remarkable legacy will endure and inspire future generations.”
