Strike action will commence today (Thursday 31st May) at Mahle after a breakdown in pay negotiations which started in December 2017. The industrial action will continue for at least four Thursdays and four Saturdays along with a complete overtime ban for 12 weeks. Unite received a mandate for action of over 97% for action short of strike and 92% respectively for strike action with a 95.5% turnout in the ballot.
Unite Industrial Officer, Paul Bennett said: “We have done everything in our power to avert strike action including discussions through ACAS. However, Mahle have not seriously tried to meet our concerns and make a reasonable pay offer. Frustratingly, the negotiations have been going on since December last year. Unite members are no longer willing to tolerate under inflation pay rises. We believe that there has been serious management failures that seem to have been rewarded by bonuses and financed by our members. It is now time to fight back.”
