Job guarantees at Suffolk book printer welcomed by Unite

02 May 2018

‘Cast iron’ assurances about future job security at Suffolk book printer, Clays were welcomed by Unite, the country’s largest union, today (Wednesday 2 May).

Yesterday (Tuesday 1 May), it was announced that Clays, printers of the Harry Potter series, has been bought by Italian printing giant Elcograf.

Unite regional officer Mark Walker said: "Unite has today received cast iron assurances from the Clays management about future job security, following the acquisition by the Elcograf Group.

“Unite represents the majority of employees at the company, many of whom live locally. We are satisfied that the long term future of the Bungay site in Suffolk is secure and our members’ jobs are protected.

“Unite and its representatives will continue to work closely and constructively with the management as it ushers in a new era for this historic 200-years-old company.”

Unite has more than 550 members at Clays.
