24 June 2014

Unite Diary Note

What: Unite the union policy conference
When: Monday 30 June – Friday 4 July 2014
Where: Liverpool Arena Convention Centre, Kings Dock, L3 4FP

A provisional agenda for the policy conference of the UK and Ireland’s largest trade union Unite has been finalised with the theme of jobs, health, homes and hope featuring prominently throughout the five day gathering in Liverpool.

The conference, which is held every two years, comes against a backdrop of continued cuts by the Tory-led government, widening inequality and an economic recovery which is passing communities and ordinary people by.

Conference opens on Monday 30 June with a key note speech by the union’s general secretary Len McCluskey.

Labour’s shadow secretary of state for Health, Andy Burnham MP, TUC general secretary Frances O’Grady, the actor Ricky Tomlinson and Ian Lavery MP are also set to speak during the conference, which will see delegates discussing a wide range of issues from action for a living wage and outlawing zero hour contracts, to rebalancing the economy, fracking and Europe.

Campaigning against the Tory-led government’s sell-off of the NHS and defending public services also features in the agenda which will also see key debates on austerity and the housing crisis.

Media wishing to attend the conference should email Martha Campbell for accreditation.
