600 Liverpool NHS job losses 'a bolt from the blue'

30 January 2013

Unite, the largest union in the country, is seeking an urgent meeting with NHS managers after reports that 600 jobs in Liverpool could face the axe over the next five years.

Reports of a public meeting of the board of the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust that jobs across the trust could go were described as “a bolt from the blue”.

Unite regional officer Steve Power said: “We need to confirm exactly what was said at the meeting as the trust has made no public announcement on these job losses.

“This has come as a bolt from the blue and Unite, along with other unions, will be seeking discussions with management. Unite will be campaigning strongly to defend our members’ jobs and the services they provide to the public.

“The NHS across the country is facing a crisis caused by the government’s privatisation agenda for the health service and the financial strait-jacket that NHS staff now have to work under.”
