Unite welcomes Welsh Government support for Ford Bridgend production of new EcoBoost Engine

22 April 2013

Unite, one of the largest unions in Wales, has warmly welcomed today’s announcement of a multi-million pound investment to produce the new 1.5 litre EcoBoost Engine at the Ford engine plant at Bridgend.

Unite Wales Secretary, Andy Richards said:

“Today’s announcement is good news for Ford and some much welcome cheer for manufacturing as a whole in Wales.

We’re all well aware that we’re going through some tough times not just in Wales but beyond and the Welsh Government is to be commended for their active support for decent jobs and wider Welsh manufacturing.

The package to produce the new EcoBoost Engine in Bridgend demonstrates the real value of social and business partnership in action – this deal not only maintains decent jobs in Wales but opens the door to create further high quality employment.”

Unite is Britain and Ireland’s largest trade union with 1.5 million members working across all sectors of the economy. The general secretary is Len McCluskey.
