Unite Wales is opening up its offices across Wales as drop off points for donations to support the European refugee crisis. The union will be working with ‘Stand Up To Racism’ to help transport vitals to those refugees in desperate need.
Unite Wales secretary Andy Richards said:
“The refugee crisis across Europe is growing worse by the day as thousands flee war and chaos. Wales is no stranger to giving shelter to refugees fleeing conflict and we will not sit idly by and turn our back on those in need.
Unite Wales will be working with Stand Up to Racism to help transport vital supplies in a convoy that will run from across the UK on 17th October. We are asking our members and people across the country to take a little time to see if they can donate items that may be gathering dust but could make a real difference.”
The collection is looking for the following donations:
Men’s shoes or trainers or walking boots, sizes 6 to 11.
Children’s shoes or trainers sizes 4-6.
Men’s clothes – sweatshirts, jackets, trousers, socks etc.
Sleeping -bags, tents, bedrolls, groundsheets, backpacks etc.
Candles or camping lights.
All donations may be dropped off at any of Unite’s six offices in Wales – Cardiff, Flint, Pontypool, Bangor, Swansea or Milford Haven – by 10th October 2015.
Notes to editors:
Any financial donations towards this work may be made at any of our offices with cheques made payable to Unite the Union and marked ‘Refugee Crisis’ on the back.
