Union 'disappointment' with Vion as deal to buy Welsh Country Foods falls through

11 April 2013

Unite, one of the largest unions in Wales, has expressed its disappointment with Vion UK after a deal to buy Welsh Country Foods fell through resulting in the loss of 350 jobs.

The Gaerwen site will now shut down tomorrow Friday 12th April with only a skeleton security and maintenance crew remaining.

Paddy McNaught, Unite Wales officer said:

"This is clearly a sad day for our members at Welsh Country Foods, Gaerwen and a sad day for the community as a whole in Anglesey.

We know that there was business interest in the site and were optimistic that a buyer could be found. We are very disappointed in the manner in which Vion UK has simply let this slip away - along with hundreds of jobs."
