Unite, one of the largest unions in Wales, has today (31 July) welcomed the sale of the Milford Haven oil refinery and safeguarding of 400 jobs as ‘great news for the workforce and for Wales’.
The Klesch Group confirmed this morning that it had signed a purchase order for the West Wales site following a long period of uncertainty. Unite has campaigned hard to secure the future of the refinery, which is vital to the local and wider economy.
Unite Wales officer, Allan Card said,
“Today’s confirmation that the Klesch Group has signed a purchase order for the Milford Haven Oil refinery is great news for the workforce and for Wales.
Unite, our members and supporters in the local community and further afield, have worked tirelessly since the sale was announced to secure the future of the refinery itself and the employment it provides.
The safeguarding of the jobs at the refinery is testament to this hard work on the ground and with the Welsh and Westminster governments.”
