Unite, one of the largest unions in Wales, has called the decision to close Crown Packaging in Neath due to overcapacity a 'further body blow to the Welsh manufacturing sector'.
Unite Wales secretary Andy Richards said:
"This is a further body blow to the Welsh manufacturing sector and to Neath in particular, which has suffered a series of losses of significant employers in recent years.
"We call upon the Welsh government to do everything in its power to intervene and to discuss with the company alternatives to plant closure.
"Unite will of course enter into discussions with the company with a view to seeking an alternative to closure."
Unite has already been in positive talks with the Welsh government economy minister with a view to establishing a Taskforce and welcomes to the resolute support demonstrated not only by the minister but also the Neath MP Christina Rees and AM Gwenda Thomas.
