Unite statement - Philips redundancies

Unite statement - Philips redundancies

30 August 2013

Unite regional industrial officer Eddie Duffy:

“Unite totally condemns the quick-fire announcement of 130 redundancies at the Philips factory in Hamilton.

“The announcement was made without consultation leaving hundreds of local workers stunned and frightened for their futures.  Quite frankly, it’s an abject failure of employment relations on the part of Philips management.

“Unite will meet with management on Tuesday next week and our message is clear:  We will fight these savage job cuts and provide our members with every support necessary.

“With a 45 day consultation process underway, once again working people are paying a terrible price for the UK Government’s attack on employment laws.

“The weakening of the redundancy consultation laws from 90 to 45 days means its open season on workers employed by opportunistic companies motivated only by corporate greed.”
