Community Safety Glasgow security staff strike over pay cut of up to £4,000

07 September 2016

Security staff at Community Safety Glasgow are on strike today (Wednesday 7 September) after facing cuts of up to £4,000 in their take-home pay.

Around 30 members of the Unite trade union will take industrial action from Wednesday 7 until Sunday 11 September.

The staff make sure that schools, libraries and sports centres are safe and secure.

Unite regional officer William McGonigle said: “Our members in Community Safety Glasgow work hard to make sure that our public buildings are safe for everyone in the city. Most of them have decades of experience and an unrivalled knowledge of the facilities they look after.

“Community Safety Glasgow wants to remove out-of-hours payments for our members, which could see many losing up to £4,000 in their take-home pay. That’s a massive cut, and we simply can’t agree to it. “We urge Community Safety Glasgow to stop attacking their hard-working staff, and to get back around the negotiating table with us to come up with a sensible solution.”
