Polestar workers left reeling

02 June 2016

Workers at Polestar UK, the UK’s largest independent print business, were left reeling when the business entered administration in April.  The company employs hundreds of people at its sites in Sheffield and Wakefield.

An initial first wave of redundancies was announced which affected approximately 80 employees.  However, since the company entered administration it has lost much of its customer base which resulted in the administrators announcing on 24 May that the Sheffield site would close with the loss of 618 jobs.

Chris Daly, Unite regional officer, said “The loss of jobs at Polestar UK is tragic for the individuals affected.  However, it reflects the state of the industry and the way in which the business has been managed”.

To support those Unite members who have been affected, the LearnwithUnite team have co-ordinated a series of events in partnership with JobCentrePlus and the National Careers Service.  These events have ensured that members have had access to the service providers they need to help them back in to work.
