Hartlepool Trades Union Council (HTUC) organises a Workers' Memorial Day remembrance service and wreath laying ceremony in Hartlepool on 28 April of each year to remember those workers who have died through industrial accident of disease whilst trying to earn an honest living for themselves and thei families.
The confirmed speakers for the 2015 service are:
- Hugh Scullion, CSEU general secretary
- Fintan Hurley, scientific director at the Institute of Occupational Medicine
- Glen Williams, Unison service group executive chair.
The special guest will be Trevor Burden who is a bereaved family member. Trevor will say a few words before the wreath laying ceremony and will lay a wreath himself.
Ian Wright, currently seeking re-election as the Labour MP for Hartlepool will give a reading at the service.
Rosie Upton (www.rosieupton.co.uk), a renowned folk singer, will be performing three songs that she has specially chosen for this Workers' Memorial Day service.
It is likely that over 30 wreaths will be laid by individuals and organisations and we will be providing individual flowers so anyone attending can lay a flower at the service in memory of a loved one.
