It has been widely reported that the government's cut back on vital services and benefits has led to a huge rise in the use of food banks in the UK.
During the holiday period Luton food bank was running very low on supplies due to the increased demand. So Unite officer, Richard Gates, issued an appeal to Unite's Luton members urging them to buy one extra item of food when they do their weekly shop, and bring it to Unite's Luton office.
The response has been fantastic, and as of today just over 14 bags loaded with food items have been delivered to the Luton food bank who were overwhelmed by the collection.
Richard is intending to repeat this effort at the end of each month and is hoping for another fantastic response from our Luton members!
