Union steps up Felixstowe truckers campaign

04 February 2014

Unite has stepped up its campaign to organise container logistics in Felixstowe with early morning leafleting and a survey of drivers.

Officers from Ipswich, Norwich and Peterborough offices joined with activists and shop stewards, including NEC member Richard Allday, to distribute Unite literature in English and Polish to over 500 road haulage workers at the Suffolk port.

“The support we had from lay activists was tremendous,” said Ipswich Regional Officer, Miles Hubbard. “The initiative was very well received by workers at the port.  There is clear hunger amongst drivers to change their industry for the better.”

Further organising activity at the port, targeting major players in the industry will continue throughout 2014.
