The new London & Eastern region office was officially named Ron Todd House by Unite general secretary Len McCluskey in a ceremony attended by the regional committee, officers and staff on Friday 17 January.

“This building sends a message that we are proud of our past and confident of our future,” said Len McLuskey, who unveiled a plaque dedicating the building to the former Transport & General Workers Union secretary.

“Ron would have been delighted but also somewhat embarrassed to be remembered in this way. He was a lovely man, multi-faceted, of great ability and determination and, above all, fiercely committed to working people,” said Len McCluskey in a speech full of warmth and humour.

“Ron Todd House makes for a magnificent union organising centre,” said regional secretary Peter Kavanagh. Ron Todd’s granddaughter, Bianca Todd was among more than 100 guests, who were welcomed to the event by regional chairman, Jim Kellly.

Ron Todd House is at 33-37 Moreland Street, London EC1V 8BB; 020 8800 4281. The closest tube station is Angel.
