Unite London & Eastern region champions LGBT rights, a stop to age discrimination, a better deal for younger people, women’s rights, fairness and dignity for disabled people, justice for migrant workers, an end to prejudice against black and ethnic minority people and much more.
Work on equalities is led by members from across all sectors in the region. Lay reps are elected to represent equality groups on six key union committees and are the driving force behind Unite London & Eastern equality campaigns. The six committeees are:
- Black and ethnic minority
- Lesbian, gay, bisexual & trans
- Young workers (30 and under)
Unite London & Eastern equality committees lead on a number of campaigns from decent apprenticeships for young people to the care of older people and fighting the UK government cuts that are hitting women hardest - issues that do not stop at the office door or the factory gate but that impact on everybody’s daily lives.
