The decision by London’s 27,000 bus drivers to take further strike action is not one they have taken lightly, b
ut they are being treated unfairly by their employers, London’s 18 bus companies.
All they are asking for a single rate of pay that covers every bus driver in London. At present drivers are covered by 80 different pay rates leading to pay gaps of over £3 an hour opening up between people doing the same job.
The bus companies have consistently refused requests to try and fix these inequalities.
All they have left to fight with is their labour in the hope that it will drive home the message to the bus companies that they want a fair deal on their pay and conditions.
