Britvic, maker of iconic drinks including Robinsons, Fruit Shoot and Tango, has said it will close its site at Widford in Chelmsford in early 2014. More than 200 jobs are at risk, many of them Unite members.
Yet on the same day as announcing this devastating news for this community, the company saw a rise in half-year profits of more than 50 per cent.
There’s no reason to shut the Widford site and end 150 years of drinks’ manufacturing in the town. The workforce are loyal, the site is profitable, and the people of Chelmsford are backing Britvic.
So Unite members at Widford are fighting back:
- To get Britvic’s Board to change its mind and keep the site in production
- To get the best deal possible, should the company go ahead and close Widford, with the same package for its workers as elsewhere in the company
Sign the petition to the board of Britvic plc: We, the undersigned, call on the board of Britvic plc to reverse its flawed decision to close the historic Widford site in Chelmsford.
