Unite has a proud history as a Lay Member led organisation, as such it engages in politics to improve our members' lives whether at home (Bedroom Tax etc), work (Working Time Regulations, Workfare, Minimum Wage etc) or when in need of support (NHS Care Services, Council Services).
We, the members, decide the priorities and policies and then with the full time staff work to deliver on behalf of members.
The Labour link is historical. Trade Unions along with the others created the Labour Party to ensure working people had a political voice nationally and locally.
Our role is to ensure working men and women are able to take part in the Labour Party at all levels and create a Labour Party that listens, understands and delivers for members of our community.
