This year’s conference was held on 26 October and was even more popular than 2016, with the main focus being mental health awareness. It was chaired by our Health & Safety Committee and attended by just under 300 Reps. We also had a lot of our affiliates in attendance in addition to Unite Legal Services, Remploy, DAST, Union Learning, Unite Organising Team, Pellacraft, 'White Ribbon' and ‘It’s a Man Thing’, raising awareness of Prostate Cancer.
The structure was slightly different in that there were speakers to all delegates, rather than have separate breakout sessions. Speakers included Maria Murphy - MD of Derby Homes, Ann Mathie – Mental Wealth Training, John Bamford – Hazards Organisation and Reuben Greenwood - Thompsons. There was a Q&A at the end of the day. The aim of the conference was to give our Reps the tools for dealing with situations arising due to mental health and judging by the feedback, many Reps found the day a positive and useful experience.
