SIMA, the Steel Industry Managers Association, represents middle managers in the steel industry. It exists as a national branch within the Metals (including Foundries) sector of Unite. SIMA aspires to represent middle managers and staff throughout the sector, and currently has a high membership employed by Tata Steel at its various sites in the UK.
SIMA recognises the problems of middle managers, who are often seen as ‘the boss’, yet are also employees. This means they also face the problems of maintaining good contractual terms, desire for a reasonable wage, and safe, healthy working conditions.
SIMA is organised by region to allow full networking of its lay representatives. Those active in this organisation are able to fully grasp the national picture, and have access to a pooled source of advice; from each other, and from Unite.
